Pressroom Supervisor

Job Summary

The role of the Pressroom Supervisor is to oversee day-to-day pressroom operations by taking ownership for all aspects of pressroom production across multiple shifts. The Pressroom Supervisor manages the communication between the Production Manager and the pressroom team. It is imperative that this employee be adept at balancing quality and productivity demands, while maintaining a positive attitude and modeling RPI values. The Pressroom Supervisor is responsible for department‘s performance and compliance with established procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Work with Production Manager to provide consistent and well documented training.
  • Ensure that safety, maintenance and quality procedures are implemented and followed
  • Coach and mentor all production employees including leads, holding them accountable for their performance; providing both positive and corrective feedback
  • Create fair and equal employee accountability for such things as attendance, product quality, workflow process, and policy
  • Process payroll each pay period ensuring paid time off and absences are recorded, and hours are accurate
  • Conduct annual performance reviews
  • Schedule ongoing press training and testing for press operators
  • Monitor and modify personnel and shift schedules per workload, reducing or extending hours as needed or directed
  • Maintain a professional attitude with your team at all times

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assess daily production to ensure that employee performance and production KPIs are met, including such things as:
  • o SLA
  • o Reprint Rate
  • o Labor management
  • o Productivity
  • Provide regular reporting of results and status to the Production Manager
  • Make sure the print production is prioritized per account and FIFO order, while maintaining a constant workflow for the production lines.
  • As part of the manufacturing team leadership, communicate effectively between and within organizational levels to deliver an exceptional customer experience
  • Communicate clear expectations and directions to your team
  • Rotate employees throughout the facility to help make sure the workflow is constant
  • Provide a safe workplace that complies with all RPI and OSHA standards
  • Maintain a clean and organized workplace
  • Identify production issues or opportunities for workflow changes, and participate in implementing improvements
  • Other duties as required

  • Develop and cross train all employees to operate multiple press types and platforms, and support cross training between the pressroom and bindery staff
  • Always alert management when there is a deviation from plans, and to do so while there is still time to take corrective action.
  • Ensure that housekeeping standards are met and that each shift is set up for success by the prior shift
  • Support management direction and initiatives as if they were your own, while also providing open and constructive feedback
  • Constantly strive to improve previous results
  • Always be tactful and professional when discussing uncomfortable subjects with employees (i.e. pace, training, quality concerns, attendance and policies)
  • Always exhibit positive leadership

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Effective and respectful communication skills – written and verbal
  • Microsoft office suite, specifically outlook and excel
  • Strong organizational skills

Education and Experience

  • High School education or equivalent
  • Minimum two years of working experience as a supervisor in a high-volume manufacturing environment, preferably within the print industry
  • Working knowledge of HP Indigo Digital presses preferred
  • Exposure to Lean, 6 sigma or other process improvement methodologies preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Work within a moderately loud environment
  • Able to grasp, reach, stoop
  • Able to see color quality and inspect quality
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
