Material Handling Supervisor

Job Summary

The Material Handling Supervisor (MHS) works as part of the plant management team, responsible for personnel, processes and equipment related to receiving, inventory control and material handling. The MHS works collaboratively with the supply chain team to enable the effective flow of materials in and out of the production facility in an accurate, organized and efficient manner. He/she works in partnership with the manufacturing teams to ensure that customer orders can be produced and fulfilled on time as required. The MHS also provides leadership, guidance and training for the materials team, establishing and maintaining standards for safe, effective and continually improving performance.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Comply with all OSHA and company safety standards, including but not limited to such things as forklift safety, PPE and vehicle safety
  • Maintain positive and respectful working relationships with all coworkers, exemplifying the cultural values of RPI – passion, commitment, adaptability, trust and entrepreneurship
  • Monitor and assess the performance of the material handling team and address needed areas for improvement
  • Respond and communicate in a timely manner to HelpDesk tickets and other requests related to materials management
  • Maintain accurate paper and computer records
  • Write and revise standard operating procedures related to receiving and material handling
  • Participate as a member of the plant safety team
  • Keep the warehouse and receiving areas organized and clean
  • Contribute input and ideas to improve the safety, security and effectiveness of the workforce and workplace
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned

  • Safe and professional operation of all manual and powered material handling equipment

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong orientation toward achieving professional goals and objectives
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word and Excel)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed, including some extended shift hours

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in warehouse and inventory control
  • Utilization of a computerized inventory management system
  • Management/supervision of an employee team of at least ten employees
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • OSHA training certification
  • Forklift certification
  • Scissor lift certification
  • Current valid driver’s license and clean driving record, insurable to operate company vehicles
  • Management of or participation in a facility safety program
